Mae S. Sokol, M.D. is Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics
at the Creighton University School of Medicine. Dr. Sokol is a board
certified child and adolescent psychiatrist and specializes in the
treatment of eating disorders. She is responsible for evaluating and
treating patients with eating disorders and problems along a complete
continuum of care.
Dr. Sokol is known for her work in eating disorders and child and
adolescent psychiatry. She has been in practice for more than 20 years
and is an accomplished researcher and teacher. She utilizes a
biopsychosocial approach including individual, family and group
therapy, as well as pharmacotherapy.
Dr. Sokol conducts clinical research on eating disorders, and is known
for being the first to describe infection-triggered Anorexia Nervosa,
or PANDAS (Pediatric Auto-immune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated
with Streptococcus) Anorexia Nervosa. Her research in this area is
ongoing. She is a published author and international lecturer on
eating disorders and parenting issues in children.
Dr. Sokol received her training in psychiatry and child and adolescent
psychiatry at Bellevue Hospital in New York City. She is a member of
the Eating Disorders Research Society, Academy for Eating Disorders,
Society of Adolescent Medicine, American Psychiatric Association,
American Medical Association and the American Academy of Child and
Adolescent Psychiatry.
